Advice on how to adjust (cut) your Zpey Fusion EXTENDED shooting head

09.06.2010
The Zpey Fusion EXTENDED shooting heads are not made for use with poly leaders and they are not equipped with premade loops. These lines can be adjusted (cut) and here are some general advice on how to do just that.

The reason why we have chosen not to equip the Extended shooting heads with premade loops, is the fact that we know that many experienced double handed fly fishers like to adjust their lines to personal rods, personal casting styles and to different fishing conditions. We would like to present some general advice on how to adjust (cut) these shooting heads. First of all, we would like to point out that one of the 15 different lines has been "blessed" with an extension in the front that should not be there: The # 9/10 Floating version has got an extra 40 cm level tip and this will make the line "wobble" a little bit too much. Please cut off 30-40 centimetres in the front of this line.
For all the other lines, adjustments should only be made from the rear end. First of all, we would advice you to try the lines without cutting them. Lots of fly fishers that are already proud owners of an Extended shooting head have found the full version to be perfect for them. If you still think the line is too long or too heavy, then start by cutting from the rear end and just a few centimetres at a time and always test the cut line before cutting more. There are few things worse than cutting a line too much. Good luck with eventual adjustments and, of course, tight lines!
