Zpey Fusion EXTENDED shooting heads
09.06.2010
The Zpey Fusion Extended shooting head concept is a wonderful alternative for double handed fly fishers that have "graduated" from the freshman level. Extended shooting heads cast beautifully, turn over leaders effectively and they sink like they are supposed to sink.
Extended shooting heads are between 12,5 and 14 meters long (depending on weight class and density) and are intended for use without poly leaders. There are no premade loops on these lines, but you can easily make these yourself, by stripping off 5-6 cm of the coating, folding the stripped part double and then make a single knot. If you strengthen this knot with a drop of superglue, you should be on the safe side. These loops can of course be made in more elegant ways (using braided loops or sewed loops), but I won't discuss these methods here. The reason why these shooting heads cast so wonderfully, has to do with the way they are tapered: We have used a longer front taper than what is normal and we have also inserted a level part in this front taper to make the line turn over more slowly. This will ensure both better presentations and longer casts. The Extended shooting heads are available in five different densities: Float, Intermediate, Sink 1-2, Sink 3-4 and Sink 6-7. An important reason for the combined effect of shooting heads that both cast fantastically and still sink like they should, is the fact that the heavy density part (the front of the line) is up to 6 meters long. We are the only ones in the market with a front density part of the sinking lines of this length. Even a heavy sinker like the Sink 6-7, will cast very well. Every time we let a fly fisher test one of our Extended shooting heads, they just look at us and say "wow" (or something like that) before most of them end up buying one or more of these fantastic fly fishing lines. What about you? Have you tried a Zpey Fusion Extended shooting head recently?
